The CPR Instructor Elective is a longitudinal elective experience awarding fourth-year elective credit for your efforts in serving the community throughout your four years of medical school.
Becoming a CPR Instructor
You will need to become certified as a CPR instructor. You may do this via the American Heart Association pathway or the Red Cross. These instructor courses are time consuming, but will earn you hours towards teaching credits.
Teaching CPR (either ARC/AHA or CCC, see below)
ARC/AHA: You will be able to teach at any of the sites your certification allows throughout Arizona. This may include the College of Medicine and University Medical Center, multiple community sites in Tucson and Phoenix, and in rural areas. Most courses last around four (4) hours and this will count as one (1) CPR teaching credit. You will need to complete a total of sixteen (16) CPR teaching credits (i.e., 4-hr half-day courses). Four (4) of these CPR Teaching Credits must be obtained in the Fourth or Senior year of medical school. You must complete 12 of the 16 CPR Teaching Credits before entering the Fourth or Senior year. You will be responsible for documenting your teaching credits by using the CPR Online Instruction Log.

Handouts on the session will be distributed to all registered students. The Didactic Sessions Calendar will be posted on the CPR Elective bulletin board and web site. Bring your lunch!
